Metairie
Louisiana's Finest Krewe
Our
Renowned Ball Galas

This
Season, our Ball took place on February 3, 2007
When the Krewe of Aquila was formed in
1976, one of the basic principles was the adherence to the old
time Mardi Gras tradition of staging a formal tableau ball.
Keeping the theme of the ball and parade secret until
it is revealed as the tableau was presented.
The Ball Tableau is the telling of a
story which develops the theme as the Maids and Dukes are
presented wearing what has become some of the most elaborate
and detailed costumes in all of Mardi Gras.
The various krewe groups present entertaining skits
between the entrances of the court members—elaborating on
various aspects of the theme as they entertain our guests.
This format allows the entire krewe
membership to become involved in the presentation of the Ball.
Each year the Ball closes with what has become
Aquila
’s patriotic statement.
Attendance at the formal ball tableau is by invitation
only and is free to our guests.
The tableau ball is followed by the “After Ball
Party”, which is held in the adjoining ballroom of the
Pontchartrain
Center. To gain entrance
to this affair tickets can be purchased through krewe members.

Aquila remains
one of the more unique entities within the broad variations of Mardi
Gras organizations by producing these phenomenal costumes using all donated
labor of the Krewe members, known within the organization as “THE BACK ROOM
GANG”. This is not to say that very special attention is not given to their
Krewe costumes, to the contrary – the back room gang along with the
designer, is the very reason for some of the most complete and detailed
regalia, in all of the New
Orleans metro region's Mardi
Gras.
Aquila has been,
and remains, active within the New Orleans
tourist and convention business community by restaging shortened forms of either their
ball and or parade for visitors to the city, upon requests, and allowing for
time to prepare. You can email
the Krewe here
if you wish to make inquiries.
The Krewe of Aquila parades in Jefferson parish on
the standard East Bank route on the Friday night before Mardi Gras. Their
cast of both male and female members presents to the public one of the most
eagerly awaited parades each year. Royal mini floats showcase their Maids
and Dukes within the parade each year.
Aquila’s members have developed a reputation of
being some of the most generous in all of Mardi Gras when it comes to the
amount of throws distributed to the throngs of spectators lining the parade
route. Among the emblem collectibles thrown each year are their doubloons,
cups, medallion beads, footballs and their signature plush eagle – known as
“spirit”.
Members and guests may also purchase tickets to the
after ball extravaganza, which includes open bars and food for the party and the
entertainment.
Membership meetings are held during the year to discuss
the plans for the following year. Members may also purchase a complete line of
“throws” from the club at discount rates.
Ball
tickets, for the public, are available from the Krewe office by emailing your
request to the address listed on our contact us page or you can call and request
utilizing the numbers on the page.
